Privacy Policy

Short version: your games stay in your browser, we count visits without cookies, and anything that tracks you for analytics or ads needs your consent where the law requires it. You can change your mind any time with Your privacy choices.

Who we are

Infinite Wordplay (infinitewordplay.com, "we") runs this website and is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@infinitewordplay.com.

What is stored in your browser

Your game progress, statistics, streaks and settings (hard mode, colors, spelling) are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us and there is no account. Clearing the site data in your browser deletes them.

Visit counts (our own, cookieless)

To see which pages and games are used, the site sends small, anonymous events to our own server: page views, time on page, games started and finished (length, mode, number of guesses), shares and similar actions. Each event can include a random identifier stored in your browser (not a cookie), the referring website, the device type (mobile or desktop) and the country reported by our hosting provider. We do not store IP addresses, names or email addresses. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the random identifier is only stored after you choose "Accept"; if you choose "Reject" anywhere, it is not stored and only the current browser tab is counted. The owner's own visits are excluded. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running and improving the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) and, for the identifier in the EEA/UK, your consent.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 with Google Consent Mode v2 to understand how the site is used. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are only set after you choose "Accept" in the cookie banner; before that, Google receives only cookieless signals without identifiers. Elsewhere, analytics runs by default and you can switch it off under Your privacy choices. Google's use of data is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

The site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Ad partners can use cookies to show and measure ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, personalized ads and advertising cookies are only used after you choose "Accept"; otherwise, ads are limited to non-personalized ones. Elsewhere you can opt out of personalized ads under Your privacy choices, and we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as an opt-out as well. You can also manage Google's ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.

Notifications

If you choose to get a daily reminder, your browser gives us a push subscription (an address at your browser's push service and encryption keys). We store it together with your time zone, so the reminder arrives in your morning, and the word length you were playing. You can turn reminders off in your browser settings at any time; subscriptions that stop working are deleted automatically.

Hosting and security

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site against abuse. We use the country it reports to show the cookie banner only where it is required, and do not store your IP address.

Your rights

EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR, UK GDPR): you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time (Your privacy choices). You can also complain to your data protection authority.

California and other US states (CCPA/CPRA and similar laws): we do not sell personal information for money. Showing personalized ads may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out under Your privacy choices ("Reject"), and we honor Global Privacy Control. You have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for using these rights.

Because we do not know who you are, most of your data is best managed in your own browser: clearing the site data removes your stats, identifier and choices. For any request, write to hello@infinitewordplay.com.

Children

The site is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

How long we keep data

Anonymous event data is kept for up to 26 months and then deleted or aggregated. Push subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or they stop working. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to answer them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
