Find five letters too easy? The daily six-letter word is the next step, and it resets every midnight Eastern Time.
The daily puzzle for five-letter veterans
If you solve the five-letter puzzle in three guesses most days, six letters will make you think again. The extra tile means more possible words, more room for repeated letters (51% of six-letter answers have one), and endings you have to spot, like -er, -le or -ty. You still get six guesses.
A new word appears at midnight Eastern Time and stays the same for everyone until the next one. Solve it on consecutive days to build your streak. The words come from a fixed list of 2,208 common six-letter words, and every past puzzle is kept in the 6-letter archive.
Opening moves for six letters
Our analysis of the answer list puts SATIRE, SALTER, CARTEL, RETAIN, CANTER at the top of the everyday starting words. A six-letter answer has 2.23 vowels on average, so use your first two guesses to cover A, E, I, O and U, and look for the ending early: E, R, Y are the most common last letters.
