One word a day, the same for everyone
The daily puzzle is the ritual version of the game. At midnight Eastern Time a new five-letter word appears, and until the next midnight everyone in the world plays that same word. Solve it in six guesses or fewer and your streak grows by one; miss a day and it starts over. The puzzle number in your result (Daily #12, Daily #13...) tells friends exactly which one you played.
The words come from a fixed list of 2,022 common five-letter words, enough for more than 5 years without a repeat. They are chosen to be fair: everyday words, no plurals, no obscure spellings, and a manual check so nothing offensive ever becomes the word of the day.
Share your grid, not the answer
When you finish, tap Copy result, Share, WhatsApp or Post on X. You share the famous grid of green, yellow and gray squares plus your score, like 4/6. A star (4/6*) means you played in hard mode. The word itself stays hidden, so friends can still play.

What time does the new daily word come out?
At midnight Eastern Time (New York time, daylight saving included). That is 5 a.m. in London for most of the year, 9 p.m. the evening before in Los Angeles, and early afternoon in Sydney.
Is this the New York Times puzzle?

Does using a hint break my streak?
No. The streak only counts whether you solved the puzzle that day.
